Normal Weight Range Chart by Age

Normal Weight Range Chart by Age

Adult weight/age charts present average weights for specific age ranges without indicating ideal weight, body mass index or height. Children's growth charts show height and weight comparisons for specific ages as a child grows.

Women

Women's weight should average 130 pounds, yet many women age 50 and older describe their ideal weight as around 160 pounds. Decreasing hormones, especially after menopause, and dropping caloric needs without decreasing caloric intake contribute to the weight gain. Weight charts taking height, body mass index (BMI), and body frame into account provide more accurate weight ranges.

Men

A man's weight averages 160 pounds, though it does vary with age. Dropping testosterone levels and decreasing need for calories without reducing caloric intake contribute to weight gain. More accurate weight levels can be obtained by consulting weight charts that include height and BMI or frame size.

Children

Genetics, physical activity and nutrition factor into children's growth. Age related growth charts show weight and length for boys and girls from birth to two years or weight and height for boys and girls from ages two to 20 years, including percentiles for comparison against other children the same age.
