Can I Place a Buffet in the Home Foyer?

Can I Place a Buffet in the Home Foyer?

Buffet tables don't necessarily come with built-in chaffing dishes. Many buffet tables are simply long, narrow tables whose length makes them ideal for serving many dishes at once. The same characteristics that make these tables ideal for a buffet also make them a space-saving solution for small spaces such as a foyer. Placed along a foyer wall, buffet tables are both practical and decorative. Does this Spark an idea?

Choosing Your Table

Choose a buffet table that the overall style of your house. There is a buffet table to suit virtually every style, from those with simple varnished wood to models embellished with ornate French scrollwork. If you love the shape of a table but hate the color, paint it yourself for a personalized touch. Make sure the buffet table is not so wide that it will take up too much space in your foyer. There should still be ample room to move in the space once the table is added. Measure the length and width of your foyer before shopping.

Functional

Place a shallow bowl or basket on one end of the buffet table for an easy repository for keys, mail and other odds and ends. If your buffet table has a built-in wine rack at the bottom, use the small cubbies for storage of other daily necessities. Shoes can be stacked on top of each other and slipped into a cubby for storage. Two or three matching baskets can slide under the table for extra decoration and storage.

Fashionable

Decorate your foyer's buffet table with a vase of fresh flowers and a photograph of your family to give an otherwise bland entryway a dash of style. Hanging a large mirror over the center of your buffet table provides a decorative accent and opens up a narrow foyer by reflecting more light and space into the space. While a mirror can be hung without a buffet table, the addition of the table anchors the space for a more finished look.

Mixing it Up

While serving a full buffet of food might be impractical in smaller spaces such as foyers, a buffet table can make an excellent cocktail bar when hosting a dinner party at home. Have your spouse take your guests' coats and bags in the foyer while you offer a glass of wine or a martini from the buffet table. Set bottles and glassware in trays to avoid watermarks on the buffet table.
