How to Pin Cloth Prefold Diapers

How to Pin Cloth Prefold Diapers

Prefolded cloth diapers are used as an alternative to disposable diapers for a variety of reasons. Whatever your reason may be, cloth diapers have been a traditional reusable baby-care item for generations. Fastening is one of the biggest challenges of prefold cloth diapers, which sometimes discourages parents from using them. This is mainly because nobody wants to accidentally poke a baby with the pin's point. However, with a little practice, pins will become easy to use, and precautions can be taken to keep your baby safe.

Instructions

    1

Open the pin and place it somewhere that is easily reachable from your changing table. Place the baby in the prefolded cloth diaper so that it is ready to be pinned.

    2

Pull baby's leg down on one side. Hold the top corner of the fabric on one side so that your fingers are on the inside touching the baby's pelvis area skin and your thumb is pinching down from the outside.

    3

Pull the back wing on the same side tightly up and over to the corner, overlapping 1 inches.

    4

Stick the point of the pin about inch from the corner of the back wing and through the overlapping second layer. Push gently, remembering that your fingers are on the other side. Once you start to feel the pressure against your fingers, just before the point pokes through, shift the pin to push back upward and out of the fabric.

    5

Fasten the open point shut with the cap.

    6

Reposition the baby by taking the baby's leg from the side you began on and the back wing from the opposite side and gently tug them apart to give more slack to the cloth.

    7

Repeat steps 3 through 5 on the open side.
