How to Identify Dining Room Furniture

Dining room furniture includes a variety of chairs, tables and cabinets that both perform utilitarian functions and decorate the kitchen and dining room area. Furniture has been around since the dawn of civilization, starting with simple pieces that were carved from fresh wood. In modern day construction, furniture can be made to exact specifications and employ designer styles and colors to match any decor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Chairs

    1

Windsor chairs ahve four legs that are thick and appear to roll outward from the base of the seat to the floor. The legs have a scrolling design that rolls up at the feet. The chair is upholstered and has an enclosed high back. There are no arm rests, and the chair sits slightly lower than the average, modern chair.

    2

The modern slat chair is a dining room arm chair. It, has an open back, typically ornamented with a particular carved design. This chair has arm rests and sits at normal height in relation to the table.

    3

Side chair: This basic dining room chair may have an open back or an upholstered back, but it will not have arm rests.

Cabinets

    4

The curio cabinet acts as a large display case that holds fine china, stemware and other decorative, painted plates and the like. Curio cabinets do not have solid doors to conceal items, only clear glass for showcasing your fine dishes and decorative items

    5

A sideboard or china cabinet, on the other hand, has doors and open glass, and sometimes a wine rack. This cabinet can vary greatly in size, often standing 6 feet high. The lower versions, generally called buffet tables, are around 3 feet tall and are favored for their countertop, which can be used to set out snacks, flowers or candy dishes.

    6

An enclosed portable bar is valuable for its flat counter space, storage area for glass bottles and a separate place for wine glasses and tumblers. Many portable bars are 3 feet in height and are either curved slightly or boxed with three distinct sections of doors and drawers.

Tables

    7

A small, perfectly round table known as a breakfast table is suited for light meals and typically seats four people.

    8

Some dining tables are oval. They provide more space, comfortably seating six people and their glasses, bowls, silverware and plates for dinner.

    9

A formal dining table can be of typical length, seating six to eight people, or it can be lavishly formal and seat 10 to 12 people. This shape allows for spacious three course meals and optimum comfort when entertaining guests, especially over holidays.
