How to Build a Wooden Make Up Vanity Table

A makeup vanity table is a place to apply and store makeup and accessories. By building a wooden vanity table, a person can save quite a bit of money over buying one at a store. Additionally, the look can be customized to fit your exact wants and needs when you build it yourself. The best way to build a makeup vanity table is to start with an old piece of wooden furniture. This will save time and reduce the production time significantly Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Choose how high you want the vanity table to be. You can make the vanity table higher by placing wood under each leg of the sideboard. Alternatively, you can make the vanity table lower by cutting the legs shorter. The height of the vanity table is simply a personal preference. There are no rules about how high it should be.

    2

Attach three L-brackets using screws. The L-brackets should be attached to the front, top edge of the sideboard. One L-bracket should be centered on this edge. One L-bracket should be installed 7 inches to the right of the center bracket, and one L-bracket should be installed 7 inches to the left of the center bracket. Place a wooden shelf on the brackets and secure them with the screws. This shelf will allow you to sit close to the vanity without having to lean over. When you're done putting on your makeup, you can push in your chair so it'll be under the shelf.

Attach three L-brackets using screws. The L-brackets should be attached to the back, top edge of the sideboard. One L-bracket should be centered on this edge, one L-bracket should be installed 7 inches to the right of the center bracket and one L-bracket should be installed 7 inches to the left of the center bracket. Line up the bottom of the wooden mirror border with the three L-brackets. Attach the mirror to the L-brackets using screws.

    4

Sand down the the vanity using sandpaper in circular motions. A fine grit such as 1,200 will work well, but you can use whatever grit you prefer. The idea here is not to remove all of the paint, just any flaky pieces that come off easily.

    5

Apply two coats of your favorite paint color. Wait for the first coat to dry for three hours before applying the second coat. Many people like to paint the borders of the vanity table one color and the rest another color. Use your creativity to make the table look the way you want.
