How to Keep a Glass Table From Sliding

How to Keep a Glass Table From Sliding

The problem with a glass table top is that it can slip or shift around the edges of the table. This is especially true for table tops that do not have an edge to hold them in place. There are two easy methods to keep a table top from sliding around on the table. You can use either felt pieces or rubber footers to hold the glass in place. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Search your home for materials that can work to hold the glass table top in place. Felt, silicone glue and rubber footers all work well at holding glass table tops steady. Rubber footers are sold at most home supply stores and are designed to hold glass table tops in place. Felt and silicone glue work together to create a nonmovable glass surface.

    2

Remove the glass from the table. Clean the table and the top with glass cleaner and paper towels to remove food crumbs, fingerprints and other dirt.

    3

Measure the distance from the edge of the table to the area where it rests on top of the table. Mark this on the glass table top with a dry erase marker. Make the marks before you set the felt or footers in place for a more precise alignment.

    4

Cut a small piece of felt to about inch into a square or circle shape. Cut three more same-size pieces from the felt. Alternatively, use rubber footers. They should be the correct size directly out of the package.

    5

Glue the felt pieces or rubber footers to the edges of the table where the glass top will rest. Allow the glue to dry for about one hour.

    6

Add a tiny bead of glue to the top of the felt pieces or rubber footers that are glued to the table edges.

    7

Place the top on the table. Make sure to align the marks you made with the dry erase marker on the table top with the corners of the table. You don't want to have to shift the table top around, because this will smudge the glue and make the surface of the glass look messy. Allow the glue to dry for two hours before using the table.
