How to Decorate the Entryway From a Garage Directly Into a Kitchen

Entryways are an introduction to the home. Although most guests dont enter a house through the garage, it is still important to have an appealing rear entry. Rear entryways can be more functional than a front entry with plenty of storage space for shoes, coats and hats. The entryway from the garage should be kept clutter-free and provide a space for people to gather themselves before entering or leaving the home. Does this Spark an idea?

Add hooks or a coat rack. When entering the home through the garage, people need a place to take off their coat, hats and gloves. Hang hooks on the wall or place a coat rack in the corner. If there are children in the home, hang one row of coat hooks low enough for them to reach. Hang another row just above eye level for adults.

Place a bench against the wall. If there is space, place a bench in the entry to provide a place for people to put on or take off boots and shoes. Benches with storage cabinets underneath are ideal for storing winter gear and extra shoes.

Place a rug in front of the door. In order to keep the kitchen clean as people enter, place a rug on the floor for people to wipe their feet. A hardy, washable rug is recommended.

Add shelves. Shelving or cabinets are a great place to store gloves, hats and scarves. For added decoration, use wicker baskets in the shelf cubbies.

Place a small table against the wall. If there is space, place a small console table against the wall. Put a bowl or plate on the table as a place to store keys. Hang a mirror above the table.

Add decoration. The dcor of the rear entry should match the dcor of the rest of the home. As the entry opens directly into the kitchen, the colors should coordinate with the kitchen. Paint the entry the same color or a coordinating color with the kitchen. The rug and any artwork should also match the dcor of the home. Add decorative pillows to the bench.
