How to Calculate BMI in Metric

BMI is your body mass index. Doctors use this number to determine if you are at the right weight for your height. Keep in mind that BMI should not be used by those who are exceptionally muscular or very old, since the numbers will not be an accurate reflection of how healthy your weight is. If you have any questions about your BMI, consult with your physician.

Instructions

    1

Take your height in meters and multiply it by itself. For instance, if you are 2 meters tall, multiply 2 by 2 to get 4.

    2

Divide the number from step 1 by your weight in kilograms. For instance, if you weigh 100 kilograms, divide this number by 4 to get 25. This number is your BMI.

    3

Look at a BMI chart to determine if you are at a healthy weight. Generally those with BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 are normal; those above this are overweight. Those below 18.5 are underweight (see Resources).
