How to Solve Matrices by Row Reduction

Matrices are rectangular data-entry tables where each cell is assigned a number value. Matrices can be used for many purposes and manipulated in many different ways. Matrices can be used to represent systems of equations and row-reduced to find the solution to the system. This can be done easily with a TI-83 graphing calculator.

Instructions

    1

Press "MATRX," "Right Arrow," "Right Arrow." "Enter," and enter the number of rows of your matrix, number of columns of your matrix, and each matrix entry.

    2

Press "Clear" to return to the home screen. Press "MATRX," "Right Arrow," "Alpha," "B" to select the RREF function.

    3

Press "MATRX," "1," ")" and "Enter" to select the matrix you inputted and perform the RREF operator on it. The operator will output a new matrix. The last column will be the solutions to your matrix.
