Ideas for Breakfast Centerpieces

Ideas for Breakfast Centerpieces

A breakfast centerpiece adds a focal point to your table and complements the most important meal of the day. A centerpiece often includes elements geared to a specific celebration or season. Encouraging all ages to help design this centerpiece becomes a family activity when your children's artistic creations help make the day start right. Does this Spark an idea?

When a member of your household celebrates a birthday, include the flower of the birthday month, such as carnations for January or chrysanthemums for November. A few blooms on a plate with optional greenery offer an elegant centerpiece.

A small gift bag that stands up on the tabletop holds tissue paper as filler. Hanging a bead necklace such as faux pearls adds a classy touch on the front. Perhaps a small photo of the birthday star can grace the gift bag.

For Children

A collection of many clear plastic glasses on a plate can hold crayons and clusters of tissue paper flowers. A parfait glass showcases layers of crinkled gift wrap with curls of ribbon inside or outside the glass. For sporty kids, try floating ping pong balls in a glass bowl of tinted water. Little green army men can reconnoiter from stacks of sugar cubes.

Christmas

For an edible breakfast centerpiece, try arranging small mandarin oranges and greenery such as rosemary sprigs on a pretty plate. Cranberries floating in glasses of water offer a bright splash of color. The glasses can include a variety of heights or sizes and water levels. Kumquats also look attractive floating in vases or glassware.

Valentine Breakfast

Little glass bowls with candy hearts or red and silver foil-wrapped chocolates can start St. Valentine's Day. White lace or a heart-shaped doily underneath adds a traditional touch. A slim vase with two red flowers offers both a centerpiece and a gift. For cookie lovers, a collection of heart-shaped cookie cutters and a miniature rolling pin on a floured board can hint to more goodies ahead.

Spring

Small replicas of songbirds can stand on your table and greet you in the morning. A collection of little flowerpots or bowls makes a good home for your child's hand-drawn flowers.

For a recycling theme, try creating a new vase by trimming the tops off juice containers. Keep the image of the fruit on the outside, or cover the carton with gift wrap, leaving the top open. For stability, add rocks or a weighty item to the carton. For live flowers, fill the trimmed carton with water up to two or three inches below the top edge. Artificial flowers in seasonal storage can have a new life on your breakfast table.

Minimalist Look

For the minimalist touch, try selecting one large flower, such as a dahlia or a sunflower bloom with the stalk cropped short. This sunny flower faces up on a plate.
