How to Set a Table for Brunch

How to Set a Table for Brunch

Brunch is a relaxed meal where you don't have to worry about following any strict etiquette rules when it comes to setting your table or serving your food. How you set your table will depend largely on what type of food you are serving, although there are some basic table setting guides to keep in mind. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Lay a tablecloth on the table if you want to use one. A tablecloth is not necessary for an informal brunch setting, but will help ease the clean-up if there are any spills.

    2

Add fresh flowers or some candles in the middle of the table for a centerpiece. You can also use a bowl filled with glass marbles or another simple centerpiece idea.

    3

Place a large plate in the center of each place setting, about 2 inches from the edge of the table. You should leave about 24 inches for each place setting.

    4

Set a bowl on top of the dinner plate, if needed, for cereal, granola or salad.

    5

Fold a napkin and place it on the place setting. You can place the napkin to the left of the plate or on the plate, under the bowl. Since it is an informal meal, you can use paper napkins.

    6

Put one or two forks to the left of the plate. If you are serving salad, you should use two forks. Place the salad fork on the outside as it will be used first.

    7

Place a knife, with the blade facing in, to the right of the plate. Put a spoon next to the knife.

    8

Set a drinking glass above the knife and the spoon. If you plan to have water and juice or mimosas, you can set a goblet and a regular drinking glass next to each other.

    9

Put a saucer and a cup with a teaspoon on the saucer at the table setting. Set the cup and saucer above the forks if you will serve coffee or tea after the meal. Move it to the right side of the plate when you serve the after-meal drink. Set it to the right of the drinking glasses if you plan to serve coffee and tea throughout the meal.
