How to Make a Nook Breakfast Table

How to Make a Nook Breakfast Table

The ideal quality of a breakfast nook table is that it not have four posts that would get in the way of sliding in and out on either side of it. This can be accomplished by mounting the table on a large central post instead of on four smaller posts. By fanning out supports on the ground level, it is possible to make a sturdy table that is easy to saddle up to in the morning. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Stand up a 4-by-4-by-36-inch post on one of its ends. Position a 1-by-2-by-18-inch board with its long, thin side on the ground, its largest side against the post and one of its ends flush with one of the post sides. Have this board stick off from the post by 14 inches and consider it a table brace.

    2

Drill four holes through the largest surface of the table brace and into the post. Attach the brace to the post using 3-inch wood screws. Repeat around the post with four additional brace boards so that the braces point outward from the post in every direction.

    3

Drill an additional pair of holes through each brace board and into the brace board that butts into it. Attach the brace boards together with 3-inch wood screws.

    4

Set a 1/2-by-12-by-12-inch plywood board on top of the table post. Drill four holes through the plywood board and into the table post. Attach the plywood board, which is the tabletop support board, to the post with 3-inch wood screws.

    5

Set a 1-by-36-by-36-inch tabletop on the ground upside down. Have an assistant hold the table post and braces assembly upside down so the tabletop support board is flush against the tabletop. Drill eight evenly spaced holes around the tabletop support board and into the tabletop. Screw 1-inch wood screws through the holes and into the tabletop.
