How to Decorate With Leather Sofas

No matter your personal design preference, leather sofas can be used in traditional, contemporary or eclectic rooms. Leather is smooth to the touch, easy to clean and smells goods. Traditional leather furniture is available in rich, dark colors with oranate details such as carved wood legs, button tufting and nail head trim. Contemporary leather sofas are recognized by low profile arms and backs, metal framing and minimal seems. Eclectic sofas are a combination of traditional and modern and work well in rooms that have elements of both styles, such as wood and glass tables. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Position sofas in the room to create a conversation area. In large rooms, place sofas so they face each other. Add a coffee table in between for drinks, games or magazines. If your room isn't large enough for this arrangment, create an 'L' shaped configuration with them.

    2

Add a rug in between the sofas to anchor the placement. Leather sofas are very smooth and often shiny; it is important to contrast the smoothness of the leather with other textures, such as a pile rug.

    3

Add accent pillows. Soften the smoothness of the leather with fabric pillows. Select pillows in silk, tapestries, velvet and wool.

    4

Position wood tables around the sofas. Wood tables are a perfect complement for leather sofas. Select a cocktail table and matching side tables, and arrange them so that the coffee table is centered between the sofas and a side table is on the end of each sofa.

    5

Add a fabric upholstered furniture piece to bring another element to the room. Just as the wood and pillows wiil balance the leather, an upholstered chair or ottoman will contrast the leather and bring visual interest to the room.
