Customized changing pads are excellent last-minute gifts for a baby shower. The basic pattern is easy enough for your first sewing project, while the expert sewer may choose to add features such as pockets, velcro or ties.
Supplies
You will need a piece of newspaper or butcher paper, 1 yard of fabric, a half yard of quilt batting or fleece, thread and bias tape. Velcro, snaps or waterproof fabric may be needed for additional features.
Cutting
Cut a template out of butcher paper or newspaper in the desired size of your changing pad. Use the template to cut two pieces of fabric and one piece of quilt batting or fleece.
Pinning
Pin all three layers of the changing pad together with the quilt batting or fleece sandwiched between the layers of fabric. The good side of the fabric should be facing out.
Sewing
Sew a stitch from side to side through all three layers one-third and two-thirds from the top of the changing pad. This will prevent shifting. Pin the bias tape around the edges and stitch in place to cover raw edges.
