DIY End Tables

Learn how to make DIY end tables if you are lacking a few pieces of furniture or you need an inexpensive way to replace your old tables. Every living room should have a place to sit a lamp as well as your drink and remote, do-it-yourself end tables are the perfect solution. Does this Spark an idea?

The Faux Effect

    Gather up a stack of books, sturdy boxes or old magazines. Stack these items to the desired height, around two feet. Make sure the stack is stable; you may need to tie or glue the items together. Drape a table skirt over the pile or use a decorative scarf or blanket. If the cover is too long, tuck and pin the ends for a more tailored look. Another option is to use an old tree trunk. Clean it up and use a clear sealant to add a rustic touch to your living space.

Get Creative

    Keep a look out for a table that has been discarded to the curb or go to a thrift store and purchase a used table that has seen better days. Sand the table down and repaint it black or a bold color to disguise any dents or dings. You can further embellish your "new" end table by painting a decorative design on top or replacing the legs with stainless steel legs. Build Your Own End Table

    If you are have access to a wood shop construct and end table from scratch. Select a table pattern and purchase the required amount of wood. Carefully measure and cut out the legs and table top, adding any fancy wood-working embellishments that you choose. Attach the pieces with nails, glue or specially designed joints and then sand the piece. Seal your do-it-yourself end table with a clear primer or stain.
