Tips on Moving Office Furniture

Tips on Moving Office Furniture

Coordinating an office move is stressful, but with some time, attention to detail and careful planning you can successfully orchestrate an office relocation while keeping stress, accidents and costs at bay. A successful plan includes considering how the office furniture will be packed and moved to the new site in a quick, efficient and safe manner so that everything and everyone arrives in tact. The more time spent planning for the move means less down time in the future.

File Cabinets

Empty your file cabinets and put the files and papers in a box. This makes the file cabinets lighter and easier to transport. Once the cabinets are free of contents, make sure to tape up each cabinet so that they do not open during transit.

Desks

Empty the desk drawers and place the contents in boxes and manila folders. Make sure that you wrap fragile items in packaging paper and packing peanuts before storing the items in boxes or bags. Once you have removed items from the desk drawers, be sure to tape up the drawers so they do not open during the move.

Chairs

Place chairs together, or stack them one on top of the other, if possible, to maximize your space in the moving van. Consider packing chairs last so employees will have something to sit on while they are packing their desks. Once you arrive at your new office location, the chairs will be the first items to unpack. This comes in handy as associates will once again have something to sit on while unpacking their desks in their new space.

Bookcases

Bookcases are perhaps the heaviest furniture item in your office. Empty your bookcases and place the books away neatly and securely in boxes. Place your bookcases in the back of the moving van as they are likely one of the largest and heaviest furniture items in your office.
