How to Work With Tables in Nvu

How to Work With Tables in Nvu

Nvu is an open source WYSIWYG HTML editor that is used to create web pages. It is available for free from nvudev.com (see link below) and works on Windows, Mac and Linux. This article will show you how to work with tables in Nvu.

Instructions

    1

I assume you already have Nvu downloaded and installed. Refer to my article on how to start using Nvu if you do not (see link in Resources below).

    2
Insert a table on the document page in the cursor position.

Open a new or existing document in the Nvu document window. Place your cursor in the location where you want the table to appear.

    3
Use this icon to create a table.

Click the table icon in the toolbar at the top of the window.

    4
One of the options for tables is Quickly.

The table dialog opens. You can select a number of columns and rows using the Quickly tab.

    5
    The Advanced Edit options

If you select Advanced Edit, you can add inline styles, JavaScript events and other HTML attributes to your table. (It would be better to separate the presentation of the table to the stylesheet.)

    6
Most of the cell options control HTML attributes.

Note that you have tabs for Precisely and Cell that provide further opportunities to set up the table now. (These options create HTML attributes for styling that would be better moved to the stylesheet.)

    7
Your table is ready for data.

The table will open on the document page, ready for you to complete the data.

    8
Click the table in the document window to access table properties.

You can edit the table properties after it is on the page. Select the table in the document window. Use the menu to select Table > Table Properties. The table properties will open. You can make changes to the table here, such as selecting background color.

    9
Set table headers for rows and columns in the Cell tab.

Under the Cell tab in the Table Properties dialog, you can select a table cell and set it to be a header (th) rather than simply table data (td). Other cell attributes can be set in this dialog, such as background color.
