How to Design a Buffet Table for a Party

How to Design a Buffet Table for a Party

If you're hosting a large event and want to offer guests a variety of options when it comes to food, serving a buffet-style meal is perhaps the best route to go. Buffet tables allow you to set out a variety of different types of food and lets guests choose exactly what and how much they want. When it comes to designing the buffet table, convenience and ease of use is key. Add key elements, as well as a few decorative accents, to design a successful and appealing buffet. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Cover the table with a floor-length tablecloth. Choose a tablecloth that matches the color scheme of your event and if possible, one that is a dark shade, as accidental drips or spills are more apt to blend in on a dark surface.

    2

Set dishes and silverware at one end of the table. Arrange stacks of plates and bowls toward the back of the designated end of the table. Fill baskets with forks, knives and spoons and set them out in front of the stacks of dishes.

    3

Place cold food items next to the dishes and silverware, such as bowls of salads and antipastos and baskets of breads and rolls.

    4

Arrange chafing dishes in the center of the table. Set out chafing dishes filled with main dishes first, including different types of meats, pastas and seafood. Place chafing dishes filled with sides next to the main dishes -- rice and vegetables, for example. Set serving spoons and forks inside of each of the chafing dishes.

    5

Place condiments and toppings on the opposite end of the table. Fill glass or decorative bowls with grated cheeses, butter, ketchup and mustard. Put small spoons or knives inside of each of the condiment bowls.

    6

Add decorative elements to the table. Choose accents that suit the theme of the event and neatly arrange them on the surface of the table. For instance, if you're hosting an Italian dinner, place artificial grapes between the chafing dishes and along either end of the table. For a formal event, tuck small bouquets of flowers along the surface of the table.
